IMF forecasts 4.5% growth for Morocco in 2026

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects Morocco’s economy to grow by 4.5% in 2026, according to its latest World Economic Outlook, published during the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok. The forecast stands out as the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region faces an expected economic contraction.

Strong growth despite regional challenges

The IMF projects Morocco’s economic growth at 4.5% in 2026, followed by 4.2% in 2027. Inflation is expected to remain low, at 0.9% in 2026, before rising slightly to 1.4% the following year.

These projections contrast with the outlook for the wider MENA region, whose economy is forecast to contract by 2% in 2026. Morocco is also expected to outperform the global economy, for which the IMF projects growth of 3.1% this year, amid rising global inflation estimated at 4.7%.

The figures point to Morocco’s relative resilience in a challenging international economic environment.

Investor confidence supports Morocco’s outlook

The projections could reinforce investor confidence in Morocco’s economy. In September 2025, the country regained investment-grade status from Standard & Poor’s, reflecting assessments of its economic reforms and fiscal management.

An investment-grade rating can help a country access international borrowing at more favourable rates and attract foreign investment.

Morocco is pursuing major development projects, including preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the Nador West Med port complex and initiatives in green hydrogen.

These investments form part of the kingdom’s broader strategy to strengthen infrastructure, diversify its economy and attract capital. However, the IMF’s growth forecasts remain projections and will depend on domestic economic conditions and developments in the global economy.
