Morocco continued their impressive campaign at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026 with a 1-0 victory over Algeria on Thursday, July 30, 2026. In a highly anticipated North African derby at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, the Atlas Lionesses secured their second consecutive win of the tournament and moved closer to reaching the quarter-finals.

Morocco dominate key moments of derby clash

The encounter brought together two teams determined to strengthen their position in Group A. After winning their opening matches, Morocco and Algeria entered the game with confidence and high expectations. However, the hosts managed to make the difference and secure a narrow victory against a disciplined Algerian side.

Algeria must react to keep qualification hopes alive

Despite a competitive performance, Algeria failed to collect points from the derby and will now need positive results in their remaining fixtures to stay in contention for a place in the knockout stage. Morocco, meanwhile, have taken control of their group with six points from two matches.

Morocco confirm their status among Africa’s top teams

The victory further underlines Morocco’s rapid progress in women’s football. After their strong performances in recent continental competitions, the Atlas Lionesses continue to establish themselves as one of Africa’s leading national teams.
