Morocco have made a perfect start to the 2026 Africa Futsal Cup of Nations, winning their first two Group A matches to secure an early place in the semi-finals. After opening their campaign with a 4-0 victory over Algeria, the hosts followed up with a commanding 7-0 win against Zambia on Wednesday, October 14, in Rabat. With two wins from two matches and 11 goals scored without conceding, the defending champions have underlined their status as favourites to lift the trophy on home soil.
Morocco lay down a marker with two convincing victories
The Atlas Lions got their campaign off to an ideal start on October 12, defeating Algeria 4-0 in front of a passionate home crowd at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Hall in Rabat.
Younes Mkasri opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Youssef Jouad struck three times in the 12th, 26th and 32nd minutes. The result gave Hicham Dguig’s side their first three points and a strong start to the tournament.
Morocco maintained that momentum against Zambia in their second group match. Raiss El Fenni stole the spotlight with four goals in a 7-0 victory, while Yanis Erraddaf, Soufian Charraoui and Youssef Jouad also found the net.
The two performances have produced an impressive record: two victories, 11 goals scored and none conceded.
A place in the semi-finals already secured
With six points from their opening two matches, Morocco have become the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2026 Africa Futsal Cup of Nations.
The early qualification rewards a strong start by the three-time defending champions, who are seeking a fourth consecutive continental crown after winning the tournament in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
Morocco will face Libya in their final Group A fixture, aiming to maintain their perfect record and consolidate top spot before the knockout stage.
Libya and Algeria battle for the remaining place
While Morocco have already booked their semi-final ticket, the fight for the group’s second qualifying spot remains open.
Libya drew 2-2 with Algeria on Wednesday after losing their opening match 3-1 to Zambia. The result leaves the two sides under pressure ahead of the decisive final round of group fixtures.
With their attacking strength, defensive solidity and home support, Morocco have made an emphatic statement in the opening stages of the competition. The Atlas Lions are now firmly on course in their bid to retain the African futsal title.
