Nine months after the controversial AFCON 2025 final, the dispute continues to fuel debate across Africa. Opinions remain divided over whether the competition’s regulations should be enforced strictly or whether the result achieved on the pitch should prevail.
In a video widely circulated on social media, a Ghanaian journalist openly supports the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to sanction Senegal following the team’s temporary withdrawal from the pitch during the final against Morocco.
“It is very hard for Senegal to lose, but there is a rule: if you leave the pitch, it is a forfeit,” he says, arguing that the regulations should apply regardless of which teams are involved.
The journalist also questions what he sees as a double standard in the reactions to the incident. In his view, the criticism would have taken a completely different direction if Moroccan players had left the pitch under similar circumstances.
In the same video, another speaker goes further, denouncing what he describes as “a massive campaign to demonise Morocco.”
These comments highlight the tensions that continue to surround the final and reignite discussions about the consistent application of football regulations in Africa.
