Morocco’s tourism sector is maintaining its record-breaking momentum, welcoming 15.7 million tourists by the end of September 2026, a 5% increase year on year. After attracting an unprecedented 19.8 million visitors in 2025, the kingdom is strengthening its ambition to reach 26 million tourists annually by 2030. Growing air connectivity, digital innovation and efforts to diversify international markets are helping Morocco consolidate its position as one of Africa’s leading tourism destinations.
Record arrivals drive tourism growth
Morocco’s tourism industry reached a historic milestone in 2025, with 19.8 million arrivals, up 14% from the previous year. Travel receipts also climbed, reaching 124 billion dirhams by the end of November, an increase of 19%.
“Welcoming nearly 20 million tourists in 2025 reflects the profound transformation of Moroccan tourism,” Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor said.
The positive trend has continued into 2026. More than 1.5 million tourists visited Morocco in September alone, representing an 8% increase compared with the same month in 2025.
Tourism receipts reached 97.9 billion dirhams by the end of August, up 9.7% year on year. The faster growth in revenue compared with visitor arrivals points to the sector’s increasing economic contribution.
Air connectivity expands as Morocco targets new markets
The Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) is stepping up efforts to improve international access to the kingdom and support its long-term growth ambitions.
For summer 2026, the office secured commitments for 7.74 million airline seats, a 13% increase, while 52 new international routes were introduced during the first half of the year.
Morocco is also integrating artificial intelligence into its marketing and commercial operations to improve how it promotes the destination and reaches potential visitors.
At the same time, the ONMT is targeting new source markets, including China, India and Latin America, to diversify arrivals beyond its established European markets.
World Cup 2030 strengthens Morocco’s tourism ambitions
With the 2030 FIFA World Cup approaching, Morocco is seeking to build on its tourism momentum by expanding international connectivity and strengthening its appeal to visitors.
The government’s target of 26 million tourists by 2030 reflects its ambition to turn tourism into an increasingly important driver of economic activity, employment and international visibility.
“The target of 26 million tourists in 2030 is closer than ever,” Ammor said.
With record visitor numbers, rising tourism revenues and an expanding network of international air links, Morocco is continuing to build momentum towards its 2030 objective.
