Over three days of high-level meetings, a key agreement was sealed. From April 14 to 16 in Washington, Morocco and the United States accelerated their military rapprochement. Behind the 2026–2036 roadmap lies a strategic convergence with significant implications for regional balances.

Washington, April 15, 2026. Inside a subdued room at the Pentagon, the scene was almost austere. No grand announcements, no elaborate staging. Abdellatif Loudiyi signed the agreement across the table from Elbridge Colby, marking a decisive step in strengthening defense cooperation between Rabat and Washington.

This new roadmap outlines a decade-long framework aimed at deepening military coordination, enhancing interoperability, and expanding joint capabilities. It reflects a shared vision between the two countries to address evolving security challenges, particularly in North Africa and the broader Sahel region.

The agreement is expected to bolster Morocco’s defense modernization efforts while reinforcing the United States’ strategic footprint in a region marked by rising instability, shifting alliances, and increasing competition among global powers.

Beyond its technical dimensions, the partnership signals a broader geopolitical alignment. As regional tensions persist and security threats evolve, Rabat and Washington appear determined to consolidate a long-term alliance rooted in mutual strategic interests.
