King Mohammed VI of Morocco has congratulated King Felipe VI of Spain following Spain’s victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, praising La Roja’s outstanding campaign and their historic triumph over Argentina in the final. In an official message released after Sunday’s final at MetLife Stadium in New York, the Moroccan monarch applauded Spain for securing its second FIFA World Cup title, describing the achievement as fully deserved.

Praise for Spain’s determination

Mohammed VI highlighted the commitment and quality displayed by Luis de la Fuente’s squad throughout the tournament. The Moroccan king commended the team’s « strong determination » and « high competitive spirit, » saying the young Spanish side captured the world title « with brilliance and merit. »

A message beyond football

The congratulatory message also reflects the close relationship between Morocco and Spain, which, alongside Portugal, will jointly host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. « Joining you and the Spanish people in celebrating this second world title won by your neighboring and friendly nation, I extend my warmest congratulations, » Mohammed VI said in a message carried by Morocco’s state news agency.

Focus shifts to the 2030 World Cup

The Moroccan monarch concluded by wishing continued success for Spanish football on the international stage. His message comes as Morocco, Spain and Portugal continue preparations to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, a landmark project expected to strengthen cooperation and ties between the three nations.
