The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that it will examine FIFA’s proposed “FIFA Forward Enterprise” initiative, which reportedly involves the sale of shares linked to the FIFA World Cup.
In a statement, CAF confirmed that it had received official correspondence from FIFA regarding the project as part of an ongoing consultation process with FIFA member associations and the FIFA Council. “As part of this consultation process, the CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe, will hold a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee next week to, among other matters, examine and assess the proposed ‘FIFA Forward Enterprise’ initiative,” the continental body said.
CAF also encouraged its member associations to study the proposal and take part in the consultation process in accordance with CAF and FIFA regulations, as well as established procedures.
CAF calls for dialogue on football development
While UEFA has openly criticised the idea, warning against the commercialisation of football’s governance, CAF has so far adopted a more cautious approach, choosing to analyse the proposal before taking a position.
The African football governing body stressed its commitment to continued dialogue with its member associations, FIFA, other continental confederations and football stakeholders.
CAF said these discussions aim to support efforts to increase financial and other resources dedicated to the development and growth of football in Africa and around the world.
The proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise project has sparked debate within the football community, with concerns raised over transparency, governance and the potential impact of private investment on the future management of the World Cup.
