WAFCON 2026: Morocco and Algeria reach quarter-finals as group A concludes

Hosts Morocco and Algeria secured their places in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Monday after the final round of Group A matches. Morocco booked their spot despite being held to a goalless draw by Senegal, while Algeria sealed qualification with a convincing victory over Kenya.

Algeria cruise into the last eight

Algeria delivered a composed performance against Kenya, claiming a 2-0 victory to finish the group stage on a high. The win confirmed Algeria’s place in the quarter-finals after an impressive campaign, with the North Africans showing consistency throughout the group phase.

Morocco advance after stalemate with Senegal

At the Moulay El Hassan Stadium, Morocco and Senegal battled to a hard-fought 0-0 draw in front of a passionate home crowd. The Atlas Lionesses created several scoring opportunities but were unable to find the breakthrough. Morocco also missed a penalty, squandering their best chance of the match. Despite the frustration in front of goal, the draw was enough to send the tournament hosts into the knockout stage.
