CAF President Patrice Motsepe has praised the decision by Moroccan King Mohammed VI to grant a royal pardon to Senegalese supporters convicted following incidents linked to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final. In a statement issued on May 23, 2026, Motsepe described the move as a strong demonstration of football’s unifying power across Africa and beyond.
Speaking on behalf of CAF’s 54 member associations, the CAF president expressed deep appreciation for what he called an inspiring gesture of humanity. He stressed that the decision reflects the organization’s mission of using football to bridge cultural, ethnic and national divides across the continent.
