In Côte d’Ivoire, former president Laurent Gbagbo is preparing to delegate part of his responsibilities within the African Peoples’ Party – Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI) to five senior party figures. Gbagbo will remain president of the party, but the redistribution of responsibilities is intended to strengthen its internal organisation and improve its day-to-day functioning. The move has also sparked speculation about the party’s future leadership. With Gbagbo retaining the presidency, attention is increasingly turning to the question of who among the five officials could eventually emerge as a potential successor. The political implications of the reshuffle are being closely watched in Côte d’Ivoire as the PPA-CI seeks to consolidate its organisation and political influence.
