The CAF Strategic Conference opened on Wednesday, October 7 in Cape Verde. The Technical and Development Committee has launched the work. Training, technical structures and sustainable development are among the main topics.
Cape Verde has been welcoming the main players in African football since Wednesday, October 07, 2026. The African Football Confederation (CAF) is organizing its Strategic Conference, scheduled from October 7 to 9 in Santa Maria, on the island of Sal. The first day began with the work of the CAF Technical and Development Committee. This session should make it possible to reflect on ways to sustainably strengthen football structures on the continent. The meeting brought together leaders, selectors, technicians and several international experts.
The first day is dedicated in particular to the development of football. Discussions focus on several sectors. Youth training, trainer development, technical structures and long-term development programs are among the priorities. The objective is to make concrete recommendations. They must then feed the work of the other two days of the conference. This approach therefore places training at the center of reflection.
For CAF, the development of African football cannot be based solely on the results of the selections. It also involves building ecosystems capable of regularly producing high-level players and technicians.
The 54 member associations gathered
The conference brings together the presidents of the 54 CAF member associations. The presidents of the zonal unions and the members of the executive committee of the body are also expected. The selectors of the senior, women’s and youth national teams are also participating in the work. International experts must bring their experience to the discussions. The president of the CAF, Patrice Motsepe, is leading the work. The president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, is also expected in Cape Verde.
