Congolese music superstar Fally Ipupa is set to receive a prestigious state honor from the Democratic Republic of Congo following his historic back-to-back concerts at the Stade de France. DR Congo President Félix Tshisekedi announced that the award will be presented to the artist upon his return to the country, praising him for elevating the image of the nation on the international stage.

“I have promised to decorate, on behalf of the DRC, the artist Fally Ipupa as soon as he returns to the country,” Tshisekedi said in a recent statement shared online. The distinction would place Fally Ipupa among a select group of Congolese artists officially honored by the state, alongside renowned musicians such as Koffi Olomide and Gims.

Fally Ipupa Makes African Music History in France

Following his two sold-out performances in France, Fally Ipupa further cemented his status as one of Africa’s biggest music stars. The singer reportedly became the first French-speaking African artist to achieve such a milestone at the Stade de France, marking another major chapter in his two-decade-long career. To celebrate his 20 years in the music industry, the Congolese star brought together several leading African artists for the event, including Nigerian Afrobeats icon Wizkid and Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz.

President Tshisekedi also revealed that he had hoped to attend the concerts personally but was unable to do so because of official commitments. “I swear that if my schedule had allowed it, I would have been there at the concert,” the Congolese president said. “Unfortunately, I could not attend, but allow me to pay tribute to this Congolese artist, Fally Ipupa, who has truly made our country proud. He mobilized all of France and drew attention to the DRC.

The recognition from the Congolese presidency highlights the growing cultural influence of Fally Ipupa, whose international success continues to shine a spotlight on Congolese music across Africa and beyond.
