The Congolese Football Federation (FECOFA) has a new president following the election of Véron Mosengo-Omba on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Running as the sole candidate at the General Assembly, Mosengo-Omba was elected without opposition, succeeding Constant Omari at the head of the governing body of football in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
A predictable election
The outcome of the vote was widely anticipated, as Mosengo-Omba was the only contender for the presidency. His election marks a period of institutional transition within Congolese football governance. The process signals the beginning of a new administrative phase for FECOFA, with expectations focused on structural reforms and improved management.
Experienced CAF executive at the helm
A former senior official of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Mosengo-Omba brings extensive experience in continental and international football administration. His appointment is seen as an opportunity to strengthen FECOFA’s credibility and modernise its operations across all levels of the game.
Key reform agenda ahead
The new president inherits a series of major challenges, including the restructuring of domestic competitions, improving governance, developing national teams, and enhancing training systems and infrastructure.
His leadership is expected to focus on revitalising Congolese football and restoring the competitiveness of the national team, known as the Léopards, on the African and global stage.
A new chapter for Congolese football
Mosengo-Omba’s arrival is viewed as a potential turning point for football in the DRC, with hopes that his experience will help usher in a more stable and ambitious era for the federation.
