The 2026 FIFA World Cup journey has come to an end for all African representatives, with Morocco becoming the last team from the continent to exit the competition after a historic run.
The Atlas Lions delivered Africa’s best performance at the tournament, reaching the quarter-finals before losing 2-0 to France. Morocco once again showcased the continent’s growing strength on the global stage after its historic semi-final appearance at the 2022 World Cup.
Egypt leads other African performances
The second-best African campaign came from Egypt, who reached the Round of 16 before being eliminated by defending champions Argentina. Other African teams also made their mark but were unable to advance beyond the first knockout round.
