Beninese football has entered a new chapter in its governance. Marcellin Bocovè has been elected president of the Benin Football Federation (FBF) for the 2026-2030 term, following Tuesday’s elective General Assembly in Missérété.

Marcellin Bocovè Elected with 76 Votes out of 79

The election left little room for suspense. Out of 79 voters, Marcellin Bocovè received 76 votes, with two abstentions and one invalid ballot.

The result gives the new FBF president a clear majority and officially puts him in charge of Benin’s football governing body for the next four years.

His election confirms the leadership transition at the FBF and opens a new chapter for Beninese football.

Mathurin De Chacus Hands Over After Eight Years

The elective General Assembly also marked the end of Mathurin De Chacus’ eight-year presidency.

After serving two terms at the helm of the federation, the outgoing president officially hands over to Marcellin Bocovè. The transition took place peacefully, marking the transfer of leadership between the two officials.

During De Chacus’ tenure, Beninese football underwent several developments, particularly in the organization of domestic competitions and the broader structuring of the sport.

Bocovè Faces Key Challenges

With Marcellin Bocovè now elected, a new leadership team will oversee the FBF for the 2026-2030 term.

The new president will be tasked with continuing ongoing projects while bringing his own vision to the management and development of Beninese football.

Key priorities are expected to include grassroots development, national team performance, the professionalization of domestic competitions and player development.

A New Era for Beninese Football

With 76 votes out of 79, Marcellin Bocovè begins his tenure with a strong electoral mandate.

After eight years at the helm, Mathurin De Chacus officially hands over the FBF presidency. A new chapter now begins, with Bocovè set to lead Benin’s football federation through 2030.
