French President Emmanuel Macron could undertake a new tour of Africa in late October or early November 2026, with Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria reportedly among the countries being considered. Benin could also be added to the itinerary.

According to information reported by Fraternité, Macron could travel to Cotonou at the invitation of the Beninese authorities. If confirmed, the visit would mark an important diplomatic moment in relations between France and Benin.

Cotonou among possible stops

A potential meeting between Emmanuel Macron and Beninese President Romuald Wadagni could focus on several areas of mutual interest, including economic cooperation, security and regional affairs.

The visit could also provide an opportunity for both countries to review their bilateral relationship and identify new areas of cooperation.

A tour amid changing relations with Africa

The possible trip comes at a time when France is seeking to reshape its partnerships across Africa, while several African countries are diversifying their diplomatic, economic and security alliances.

A visit to Benin would therefore provide an opportunity for Paris and Cotonou to reaffirm their partnership while discussing the changing political and security environment in West Africa.

Visit remains unconfirmed

For now, there has been no official confirmation of Emmanuel Macron’s possible visit to Benin. The itinerary remains under consideration and could still change.

If confirmed, however, Cotonou would become one of the key stops on a new French diplomatic push across Africa, potentially giving Paris and Benin an opportunity to redefine their priorities and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
