A tragic road accident occurred on Monday 13 July 2026 in Mali’s Bafing region after a public transport bus left the road and fell into the Bafing River near the village of Bafingdala, about 50 kilometres from Touba. According to preliminary figures released by the National Office for Civil Protection (ONPC), the accident left 54 victims, including 14 deaths and 40 injured. Civil protection teams from the Bafing region quickly arrived at the scene to rescue passengers and provide emergency assistance.

The injured were treated before being evacuated to the Regional Public Hospital Establishment (EPHR) of Touba and the Departmental Public Hospital Establishment (EPHD) of Biankouma, where they are receiving medical care. Rescue operations continued at the scene to secure the area, assist victims and allow authorities to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.

Emergency intervention saves a life in Abidjan

On the same day, another emergency operation prevented a second tragedy in Côte d’Ivoire. At 7:59 a.m., the Military Fire Brigade (GSPM) received a call reporting a person threatening to jump from a building in Plateau, opposite the South Station. A rescue team, including a fire engine, a medical ambulance and the High-Risk Intervention and Reconnaissance Group (GRIMP), was immediately deployed.

Firefighters found a 37-year-old man threatening to jump from the 13th floor of a building under construction. He was quickly brought to safety, treated by medical teams and evacuated to the Psychiatric Hospital of Bingerville. The final assessment reported one person rescued and evacuated.

The Military Fire Brigade reminded the public that psychological distress situations must be taken seriously, urging people to engage in dialogue, quickly contact emergency services and avoid actions that could worsen the situation.
