The latest update of the FIFA rankings, now calculated in real time, has brought notable shifts following the March 2026 international window. Between on-field performances and off-field decisions linked to the AFCON 2025, the contrasting trajectories of Morocco and Senegal stand out.
Morocco remain solid in the global Top 10
Despite mixed results, Morocco hold on to 8th place in the world rankings. The Atlas Lions were held to a 1-1 draw by Ecuador before bouncing back with a 2-1 win over Paraguay.
Their awarded victory in the AFCON 2025 final, recognized in the FIFA calculations, helps them maintain their position among the world’s elite, just two points behind the Netherlands.
Senegal drop despite strong results
In contrast, Senegal fall two places to 14th globally, despite wins over Peru and Gambia.
The decisive factor remains the forfeited loss in the AFCON 2025 final, which significantly impacted their points tally. Nevertheless, Senegal remain Africa’s second-ranked team, still ahead of Nigeria.
Tunisia and Ivory Coast on the rise
Tunisia and Ivory Coast are among the biggest movers, each climbing three places after an encouraging March window.
Tunisia, in particular, overtake Cameroon in the continental standings, with the Indomitable Lions remaining static after mixed results.
Algeria and Egypt neck and neck
Algeria remain 28th despite a dominant win over Guatemala and a draw with Uruguay.
Just behind them, Egypt close the gap to a single point after a strong run of results, intensifying the battle between the two North African sides.
DR Congo rise, Ghana and Cape Verde fall
DR Congo climb two spots to 46th, boosted by their historic qualification for the World Cup after defeating Jamaica in the intercontinental playoff.
Mali also move up, while Ghana and Cape Verde drop after a difficult international window.
