The Confederation of African Football is facing renewed scrutiny after its president, Patrice Motsepe, declined to directly address allegations of potential interference in refereeing decisions during a press conference in Morocco.

No Denial, No Confirmation

When questioned about the possible involvement of Olivier Savary, Motsepe avoided a direct answer and instead referred the matter to the CAF secretary general.

The official response pointed to an ongoing internal procedure, offering no confirmation or denial regarding claims that referees may have been given specific instructions, including on yellow cards.

Growing Concerns Over Transparency

The absence of a clear statement has intensified speculation across the African football community. Analysts warn that such ambiguity could undermine confidence in CAF’s refereeing systems.

Governance Challenges in African Football

This episode adds to broader concerns about governance and accountability within African football institutions. As CAF continues to expand its influence, calls for transparency and institutional reform are becoming increasingly urgent.
