Togo appoints nine new prefects in major administrative reshuffle

In Togo, the Council of Ministers has approved the appointment of nine new prefects during its meeting held on May 6, 2026. The government also announced a key appointment within the Ministry of Territorial Development and Urban Planning. According to the official communiqué, Mr. Meindou LEBIGAZA has been appointed Secretary-General of the Ministry of Territorial Development and Urban Planning.

In the country’s administrative system, prefects serve as representatives of the state within local communes. Their role includes ensuring that elected local officials comply with national laws and regulations.

List of newly appointed prefects

Under the Ministry of Territorial Administration, Local Governance and Customary Chiefs, the following officials have been named:

  • Colonel (R) KONDI Kidighan is appointed Prefect of Oti;
  • Police Commissioner (R) BALATE Mikidjièbe is appointed Prefect of Kpendjal;
  • Colonel (R) AZIABA Ayi Sessi is appointed Prefect of Doufelgou;
  • Colonel AKPAMOURA Koffi is appointed Prefect of Dankpen;
  • Mr. ANAKPA Mani is appointed Prefect of Blitta;
  • Squadron Leader AGOH Mazamesso is appointed Prefect of Mô;
  • Colonel (R) GNAKOU Aloègnim is appointed Prefect of Haho;
  • Mr. GAVLO Komi Amen Martin is appointed Prefect of Amou;
  • Colonel (R) GNAKOFRE Yao is appointed Prefect of Moyen-Mono.

This reshuffle reflects ongoing administrative adjustments within the Togolese territorial governance system, aimed at reinforcing state presence and local administrative oversight across the country.
